Pwllheli RFC 21 Nant Conwy RFC 24

With two key matches kicking off at the  Club at noon it was not surprising that a good crowd had  gathered at Bodegroes. Thankfully the early heavy rain had eased and filed onditions were reasonable for  both  games.  The game started of well for Pwllheli  as wing Osian Parry Jones slotted a penalty goal after only  two minutes. A portend of what was o
come form Nant came two minutes later. They countered from a loose Pwllheli kick  and Nant's Sion Pringle finished off a fluent movement which  cut through the Pwllheli cover to score wide out. The  conversion attempt missed. Nant varied their play with a  mixture of testng fly kicks to moving the ball well between  forwards and backs. Nat extended their lead on nine minutes.  A fine ick had taken them deep into Pwllheli's twenty two  but the line out ball was Pwllheli's. However a  misinterpreted line out call saw Nant's second row Ifan Pyrs gleefully gather clean possession and canter over to score  unchallenged. Arthur Lennon's conversion was the icing on  the cake.  To Pwllheli's credit they quickly  regrouped. Despite the committed tackling they fought back  and scored in the fifteenth minute. Taking the ball into Nant's twenty two they kept the ball tight and inched their way towards the try line. The ball came to Huw Williams who  used his strength to crash over to score. Jones' conversion  cut the deficit to ten points to twelve. Pwllheli then lost  prop Alwyn Trenholme to injury and he was replaced by ex  Nant player Elgan Davies. Pwllheli's revival continued apace  and on twenty three minutes they took the lead for the  second time with a Parry Jones penalty. With both teams  giving their all they were regular injury stoppages.  Pwllheli's flanker Harry Roberts received a cut to the head  but he was patched up and played on. Pwllhel had aqn opportunity to  increase their lead but the penalty attempt drifted wide. Jones made amends on thirty seven minutes when he successfully slotted
a penalty. The neck and neck nature of the match continued and on forty  minutes Arthur Lennon reduced his side's arrears with a well taken penalty kick. Half time Pwllheli sixteen Nant Conwy 15.  The second period saw both side's throw the kitchen sink at each other. Heavy hits were the norm. It was Arthur Lennon who restored his side's lead with an early
penalty and he gave his side a five point buffer when he added another on twenty one minutes. Both kickers had an additional opportunity to score but both kicks were short.  Pwllheli now upped a gear and after a concerted attack Elgan Davies was put in the clear to score wide out on the left.with the conversion missing the scores were tied at twenty one points each.  The coup de grace came in the forty  second minute of the second period. Nant were awarded a  penalty and Arthur Lennon kept his nerve to slot the kick.
Pwllheli were given one last opportunity. They were awarded a  penalty in their own half. Osian Parry Jones' kick took them  into the Nant twenty two. Sadly Pwllheli's Achilles Heel on  the day - their line out - again let them down. Nant stole  possession and kicked the ball dead to seal the match.  Though the match could have gone either  way Pwllheli  can have no complaints about the result. This was a high quality match between two very good teams who are a credit to North Wales community rugby. Both teams can take a lot of pride in their performance and efforts. ell done all.  The day of woe continued as the seconds  lost the key Division 3 clash with Holyhead on the last kick  of the game. The Youths also  lost in their away League  match  against Dolgellau.  The seconds are away to Bangor on  Thursday evening. more details via Facebook and Twitter.  The team now has a two week break for  the All Black and Springbok games. The season resumes on  December 9 when the team are away to Maesteg Celtic in the  W.R. U. Plate. Arrangements for
transport and accommodation  will be announced soon
